Newest member of our mochi lineup!

Image
This is the latest addition to our Mochi ohana. It’s ICHIGO DAIFUKU MOCHI, but we call it AZHGS Hilo Kine Strawberry Mochi. Named after our friends from Arizona Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp for being our biggest small business supporter.  This creation is a strawberry covered with koshi an (sweet red bean paste) and all covered by super duper soft mochi. Made famous by our former hometown of Hilo’s Two Ladies Kitchen, we thought we’d give it a try and share with our friends here in Arizona. It’s also well known throughout Hawaii as being the ‘go to’ for Omiyage (gifts shared by island residents). Try ours! You won’t be disappointed!

New Menu Items: our Gourmet Mochi Selection

Our Chocolate Brownie Blast mochi is our chocolate brownie mochi topped with crushed peanut butter cups! Oh my the goodness! If you love mochi, chocolate, and peanut butter cups, you will love love this!🤙🏻 Came up with this after being influenced by restaurants serving up our favorite green tea ice cream with chocolate syrup, strawberries, and whip cream. So Ono and and so Pretty!!! It’s a must try!🤙🏻

Poke Wars

Image
I had the honor of entering the 2nd Annual Poke Wars contest held out in Scottsdale. It was an experience of a lifetime! Went in it with nothing to lose, and came out with a whole lot of knowledge and appreciation for the culinary world of which I knew nothing about. For the most part, all the other chefs were open to sharing ideas and respected my amateur status. I also got to connect with a bunch of other local vendors and community members. Mahalo to the event organizers for this opportunity! I’ll be back again!🤙🏻

Spam Slam

Image
Mahalo to Charis from 808 Social AZ and Alena from Designs and Signs for allowing me to be a judge at this first annual contest. Was so much fun getting to taste such creative local spam dishes and to also judge alongside some prominent members of our community. I officially hold da title of ‘SOMEBODY’ now in Arizona! 😂😂😂🤙🏻Mahalo and let’s do it again, please! Charis Brown, owner of 808 Social AZ and event organizer.

Shaka Sheri’s Ono Ono Mililani Coffee Cake

Image
Our latest addition to our all-star lineup. Wifey and kids been eating this forever so when the opportunity presented itself, we pitched the sale to 808 Social as they’re looking for breakfast items to go along with their coffee creations. Made one pan for them and it sold out, even if it took the weekend to do so. We’re confident that word will get out how ono it really is and makes a perfect Shaka compliment with any breakfast beverage….COFFEE!🤙🏻

What’s going on with our logo.

Image
When we first started our business, we weren’t taking it seriously at all. It kinda hit us when, for fun, we asked our cousin Garrin Yabuta for assistance in designing a logo. Knowing once we got that established, then it’ll start to get REAL! 😂 And so it flourish into the coolest design ever. The design and colors were out together like a masterpiece of art. Though it might look simple, there’s a bunch of hidden meanings behind it. And they are: The teal color comes from my favorite team the Miami Dolphins The tan color represents the earthy desert feel of our new homeland  The Shaka hand represents the Aloha that is being shared with the people of Arizona  The name ShakAZ was thought of at the spur of the moment. It pays homage to both where we come from as well as our new home, Arizona. And it’s the coolest play on words, don’t you think! And Grindz of course is for the comfort food products we offer.  The bolts permeating out of the word ‘ShakAZ’ below it symbo...

Our other mochi 🤙🏻

Our signature product: Mochi!

Image
We’ve been blessed to master the production of Chi Chi Dango mochi. We pack it in different ways: 6-pack, Mauna Kea Poke Pack, and the Mauna Loa Poke Pack. We could even customize party platters by special request. We could be the first to coin the poke name. So catchy and so looks like the real poke I grew up eating.  The Mauna Kea Poke Pack is one pound of mochi goodness while the Mauna Loa is a half pound. Get it? Haha…so creatively cute and appropriate.  Lastly, our mochi is fueled by Waiakea Water. We are fortunate and blessed to have partnered with them as they appreciated our story of Jon being a proud Waiakea grad and will be spreading the good word on the mainland. Other partners of theirs include local stud Kolten Wong and Yankee Aaron Judge.  Unreal similarity!

Aloha!

Howzit and mahalo for dropping in. We are Jon and Sheri Taketa of ShakAZ Grindz, LLC and we are a Arizona based Cottage Food licensed family/home-based small business catering to the needs of those wanting a taste of our own personal favorite snacks we loved while growing up in Hawaii. We had fun coming up with the name 'ShakAZ Grindz' as combined elements of who we are nicely complemented each other into a catchy title. And then we had our graphic artist cousin Garrin Yabuta, based in Los Angeles, design our cool logo. It's not so much cutesy as it is cool! There's many elements of the logo that symbolize who we are and where we come from. Take a look for yourself.  We've been blessed in reaching out and networking through our business and have met some amazing people and secured friendships along the way. AZ Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp owner Jesse Huihui is coincidentally my former student from Hawaii and is running a successful business. He was the first person we rea...
